CARBINE. Cal 50. S# 6399. Standard configuration of popular Civil War carbine retaining most all of its original blue & case colors, 21-5/8" part octagonal to round barrel, iron mounted. Left side of breech is marked "ADDRESS / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE, U.S.A." & "SMITH'S PATENT / JUNE 23 1857" & "MANUFACTURED BY / AM'N M'CH'N WKS / SPRINGFIELD MASS". CONDITION: excellent overall, barrel retains 95%+ blue finish, frame is overall silvered with areas of strong bright case colors, 95%+ original fire blue retained on frame ferrule, trigger guard, & barrel to frame latch. Stocks are fine with raised grain & two bright inspector cartouches, minor cosmetic blemishes. Mechanically fine with bright shiny rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of John "Jack" Dhooghe.
