WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44. S# 129318. Cody Firearms Museum letter confirms deluxe special-order configuration with 24" octagonal barrel, casehardened, checkered pistol grip and half magazine, shipped from warehouse August 6, 1883. Barrel and shotgun buttplate are blue retaining most all their finish. Barrel has crisp 2-line King's patent address, German silver blade inset front sight, adjustable buckhorn elevator rear sight. Frame, lever, hammer, and nose cap are casehardened retaining most all their bright vivid case colors. Rear tang has model markings and caliber is engraved on bottom of brass cartridge elevator. Dust cover & loading gate are nitre blued and retain virtually all their fiery blue color. Mounted on highly figured burl walnut, both forestock & pistol grip butt stock are finely checkered, high gloss varnish finish. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter, vintage storage/display hinged case. CONDITION: extremely fine overall, barrel retains 95%+ bright blue with some thinning and couple small areas of corrosion near muzzle. Buttplate retains about 90% bright blue finish worn at edges. Case colors on frame, lever, & nosecap are 95%+. Stock is equally fine with scattered cosmetic scratches & small blemishes, virtually all varnish is retained, sharp diamond point checkering. Rifle mechanism is as crisp as it left factory, little or no wear visible inside breech, mechanism is excellent, bright shiny mirror-like rifled bore. This is an exceptional survivor that appears possibly unfired, every part is about as fine as can be found other than noted cosmetic blemishes. Rifle was not disassembled to check internal markings.
