AUSTRIAN POLICE, TWO MATCHING MAGAZINES. Cal. 9mmP (9mm Luger). S# 3981. In 1955, the Austrian police placed an order for 10,000 High Power pistols. All were marked LGK (Landsgendarmeriekommando) followed by a 1-2 letter abbreviation for the state in which the pistol was assigned along with an issue number. This example is figured on page 200 (Fig. 200-3) of "The Belgium Browning Pistols" by Anthony Vanderlinden, featuring pictures of the matching mags., crediting Charles Wagner. This is a classic pistol with a rust blued finish, fixed sights, thumbprint slide, internal extractor, and round hammer. The left side of the slide has the customary three-line address and the usual Belgian proofs are on the left side of the slide, frame, and exposed barrel hood that is also marked with "CAL 9mmP". The full serial number is on the right side of the slide and frame with the matching number on the inner surface of the barrel hood. The frontstrap is marked "LGK SB/0429" reflecting "Salzburg Land" police, issue #0429. Fitted with wood checkered/bordered grips and a pair of postwar magazines, each with an aluminum follower, blued body, and black painted button-retained floorplate marked with the same police reference. CONDITION: near excellent with sharp edge wear from being holstered with a few light handling marks on the straps, mainly on the frontstrap, as consistent with a lightly carried pistol. Comparable condition grips and magazines. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. A high condition, documented, and all matching Austrian police FN High Power pistol with two matching magazines from one of the smaller Austrian states. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-1623/LA). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
