OFFICIAL POLICE DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# 710169. Bbl. 4". Official Police double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1944 for the U.S. military. The left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT", followed by "OFFICIAL/ POLICE" and ".38", with Colt's mfg. and patent information marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo and "VP" proof, with a U.S. flaming ordnance bomb proof stamped just above the cyl. latch. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the sides of the hammer, which are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion checkered wood grips. Half-moon blade front sight, with square frame notched rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain bountiful amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting a few spots of light edge wear, some scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some spots of light surface oxidation overall. Trigger guard exhibits wear and thinning through to gray and brown patinas. Sides of hammer exhibits small scattered spots of age related discoloration. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some mild smoothing, as well as a few marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable.
