FLINTLOCK EXPRESS RIFLE. Cal. 577. NSN. This strikingly beautiful rifle by contemporary custom gunmaker Stephen P. Alexander of Tucson Arizona is a true masterpiece of the gunmaker’s art. Bbl. 34 1/8" double taper octagon. Top flat is marked “S. P. ALEXANDER”. Dovetail mounted semi circular front sight w/ fixed V notch & peep combination rear sight. Single set trigger. Case colored lock is marked “Alexander”. Acorn finial trigger plate w/ finger curl trigger guard having patriotic theme & sunburst engraving. Trigger plate, top tang, buttplate, patch box lid cap, rear lockplate & screws have attractive complimentary engraving. Double wedge fastened half length cheek piece sporting stock w/ heavy butt & wood patch box cover in early Germanic style. Features include a horn forearm cap, German silver key escutchens, long tang shotgun style steel buttplate. Forearm & wrist of stock are hand checkered w/ wide mouldered borders. Trumpet tipped iron ram rod held on iron under rib by a faceted thimble & 2 faceted iron pipes. WEIGHT: 7 pounds 4.6 ounces. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in an elegant custom hardwood case w/ mortised corners & green cloth fitted interior. Accessories consist of 2 piece rosewood cleaning rod, rosewood mallet, rosewood handled brush, bowtie double turnscrew & other walnut handled turn screws, steel oil bottle, single cavity round ball mold, main spring clamp & cleaning jags. Other parts & accessories include spare hammer & main spring, patch cutter, spare flints in leather pouch as well as round balls & patches. CONDITION: near excellent retaining nearly all finely browned bbl. finish showing only faint edge wear. Lock & top tang retain nearly all case colored finish. Buttplate, trigger guard & iron fitting retain near excellent original blue. Original stock finish shows scattered marks & small dents. Bright near excellent bore. (01-21999/DS).
