This rapier has a beautifully made very ornate hilt that appears to be of cast and hammered steel. The swords overall length is 48 1/4" and the blade length is38 3/8". The blade has two central fullers with partially discernable inscriptions along with an armorers mark just below the fuller on each side. Large double disk guard similar to a bilbo hilt with intricate designs and pierced ovals. The crossguard measures 12" across and is also quite ornate. The motif of the knuckle bow and the massive pommel match the rest of the sword. Wire wrapped gip with Turk's head knots above and below. CONDITION: blade has a lightly cleaned medium gray mottled patina and the hilt generally shows light wear with a medium gray patina. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis.
