MODEL 1852 SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 90 bore (about 37 cal). S# 8319. Very rare configuration and probably the finest engraved 1852 rifle. 26" heavy octagonal browned barrel, 3-line address, iron mounted, double set triggers, 4" tang sight, cut-off folding rear sight, inset hooded globe pin front sight and an additional German silver blade front sight in tool box. Barrel breech & muzzle, frame, lock, hammer, lever, trigger plate, tool box & buttplate are beautifully engraved with extra-fine foliate arabesque scrolls with 2 scenes with deer. Mounted on high gloss varnished figured walnut. CONDITION: fine overall, all matching, barrel retains about half of its mottled thinning brown finish. Engraving is crisp, case colors are found in protected areas, balance of engraving has silvered patina. and surfaces "silvered", areas of pin-prick pitting on tool box. Stock is sound, well fit retaining most of its original high gloss varnish with scattered dents, nicks, and scratches. Mechanics are excellent, bright shiny crisp rifled bore.
