WITH CASE. Cal. 45. S# 3735. You won't find a more impressive Colt model 1878 DA revolver. The accompanying factory letter states gun was shipped to London agency in 1880 but makes no mention of engraving which is characteristically English with tighter and finer scrolls and this example has flowers incorporated in the scrolls. Standard configuration with 5.5" barrel marked: "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON", tiny British proofs on bottom of barrel add back edge of cylinder, fire blue finished trigger and back of hammer, sides of hammer are polished bright, checkered and varnished two piece burl walnut grips, case hardened sling swivel riveted at butt. "45CAL / B" stamped on left forward trigger bow web. The revolver is housed in an accompanying red baize lined British-style oak case, round brass plate in lid with 3 scratched initials. The interior compartmented for revolver, 18-round cartridge block, gutta percha oil bottle, 3 matching wood handled tools. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter, lase & accessories as listed above. CONDITION: excellent overall, all matching & original, retaining over 95% bright original high polish blue including fire blue on trigger and back of hammer. Only noticeable losses to blue or the lightly worn areas on back edge of cylinder. Mechanically crisp with bright shiny bore. Accompanying later manufacture London Colt casing is fine as are accessories. There is 4 digit number stamped in butt stock, unknown "collection or inventory number".
