RIFLEWITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 45-70. S# 29241. Bbl. 28" octagon, 2" longer than standard. Sporting front sight, sporting leaf rear sight w/ Lyman tang sight. Case colored receiver. Full length mag. Bolt, finger lever & crescent buttplate have special order nickel finish. Forearm & pistol grip stock w/ ebony insert of "XX" fancy walnut have style H factory checkering. Left inside of lower tang is marked w/ assembly number "1028" followed by "XX" wood grade marking. Top tang channel has matching assembly number "1028". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from the Cody Firearms Museum Records Office detailing the following information, "Serial number applied on April 18, 1889 / Type: Rifle / Caliber: 45/70 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Barrel Length: 28 inches / Trigger: Plain / Checkered stock, Pistol grip / Sights: Lyman front and rear / Nickeled bolt, Finger lever and Butt plate / Received in warehouse on May 24, 1889 / Shipped form warehouse on May 28, 1889, Order number 21859 / Repair and return on October 22, Order number 9214 (year not listed) / April 6, 1891, Order number 2098". CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube retain 30% dull blue fading to gray & showing spots of freckling. Receiver shows 30% lightly visible case colors through a spotted appearance. Bolt, lever & buttplate retain over 80% nickel finish. Stock & forearm have age darkened appearance w/ worn finish & checkering showing scratches & marks. Stock has a small crack extending from top tang w/ a chip left of lower tang. Sound action. Bore retains strong rifling w/ evidence of a lightly visible ring near the muzzle. (01-25632/DS).
