AND SONS / GEORGE WOODALL CAMEO VASE IN THE CHINESE STYLE. Late 19th century, England. George Woodall worked with the Thomas Webb firm near the end of the 19th century and produced some of the finest works. This dramatic cameo vase is most certainly a product of George Woodall's (a similar vase with Chinese style decoration was sold at Sotheby's July 15, 2004 sale as Lot 181). Woodall was often influenced by Chinese cameo glass in some of his creations such as this example. This vase of compressed ovoid form, in translucent red and carved in white with flower blossoms and scrolling foliate design, scrolling leaftips within ruji borders. The base and the flared neck carved with athemion leaves beneath a Greek Key border are the rim. A similar form signed by Woodall is illustrated in R. & L. Grover's "English Cameo Glass", page 19, figure C1. SIZE: 10 1/2" h. CONDITION: very fine original condition. (05-715/TG). $25,000-35,000.
