SWORD. Model 1852 regulation Naval officer's sword in exemplary condition retaining virtually all of its gold & lustrous blade. Standard configuration w/ 29" blade having 15" etched patriotic panels, brass mounted scabbard w/ Naval knots for ring mounts & sea serpent drag. Hilt is decorated w/ "USN", acorns & oak leaves. CONDITION: hilt & mounts retain 95%+ original gold wash. Blade retains virtually all of its original luster & polish w/ light staining near ricasso. Shark skin grip is complete w/ sm. shrink separation near top. Scabbard body is sound, retaining most of its original polish w/ craquelure. Drag has been moved down approx. 1/2" w/ replaced iron instead of brass screw. (02-14536/JS). $2,000-3,000.
