CONTRACT RANGE ASTRA MODEL 900 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 29594. Bbl. 5 1/2". 1 of only 1,052 Model 900 semi-automatic pistols mfg. in Spain by Astra and shipped to the German military on March 23rd of 1943, as noted on page 346 of "Astra Firearms and Selected Competitors" by Leonardo M. Antaris. The left side of the sideplate is marked "ASTRA AUTOMATIC PISTOL CAL 763/ PATENTED JULY.12.1928/ Uncenta y Compania GUERNICA ". Left side of the frame is marked with the S#, with faint Spanish proofs marked on the right. Right side of the bbl. and bbl. extension exhibit a Spanish "P" within a ordnance bomb proof. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the trigger, safety lever, rear sight slide, and bolt stop which exhibit a nitre blue finish. Trigger and safety lever appear to have been reheated at one time, retaining traces of their nitre bluing in exposed areas, and exhibiting a straw colored finish overall. Bolt is polished in-the-white. Interior of frame and sideplate exhibit a jeweled in-the-white finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips. Fixed blade front sight, with tangent V-notch rear sight, graduated 50-1,000. Nearly all numbers are matching and include the frame (left side, with last 3-digits of S# also marked beneath the left grip panel), sideplate, floorplate, follower, safety lever, closing block stop, bbl. / bbl. extension, rear sight assembly, locking block, bolt, as well as the bolt stop. Left grip panel is numbered "24" on the interior, with "25" numbered on the interior of the right panel. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting light edge wear, some scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina. Right side of bbl. extension rail exhibits mild wear and thinning. Grip straps exhibit some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation. Right side of bbl. and front right edge of mag. well exhibit splotches of light surface oxidation. Nitre blue parts show wear overall, with the balance retaining a gray patina, with scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise are very good overall.
