REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Win. (38-40). S# 13. Bbl. 6 1/2" w/ late production short ejector housing, bead profile sight blade (notched rear in bbl. latch) & single line rib address w/out patent dates. Only 74 mfg. 1900-1907 yet classified as antique because all frames were mfg. prior to 1898. Other late features include non tooth geared extractor (fingered style) & 1 9/16" cyl. rather than 1 7/16". Multiple S# ranges starting w/ 1 for each individual New Model variant such as Frontier, Turkish, Russian, etc. & 38 Winchester. Many No. 3's tied to historical events such as S# 3766 killed Jesse James & to noted persons such as S# 32661 to Teddy Roosevelt & S# 13303 to Buffalo Bill Cody. This model nickel plated w/ factory checkered hard rubber grips on rnd. butt. Also offered in blued finish, bbl. lengths of 4" & 5" plus target sights. Blued bbl. latch & extractor lever; in the white extractor. Case colored trigger & hammer. Matching numbers on butt, grips, bbl., extractor, cyl. & bbl. latch. CONDITION: good to very good appearance w/ good quality renickel preserving markings; dull appearance in grip area. Various spots of finish loss on cyl. w/ bubbling appearance on most portions of bbl. Traces of case colors on hammer also having fine pitting. Peppery oxidation on top of bbl. latch having tight lock up. Light scratches on top strap in front of sight notch. First notch of hammer damaged allowing release w/ trigger pull & not allowing bbl. latch to be operated unless hammer is further cocked. Very good brown toned grips w/ minimal hand wear. Proper mechanical cyl. functioning w/ tight lock up. Fair to good bore being bright w/ cleaned pitting & wear. Very scarce S&W numbered Lucky 13. (01-21742/NW). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,500.
