KENTUCKY PISTOL. Cal. 45 smooth bore. NSN. Bbl. 8 1/2" oct. to rnd. marked "S.B." Pistol has a curly maple stock & a finely made hand forged flintlock. Samuel Baum has been recognized as one of the earliest & most important gunsmiths in the Susquehanna School of Gunsmithing. He worked in New Berlin & in Danville in the area that is today Montour County. His guns were most often signed "S.B." This is the only Samuel Baum pistol this consultant has ever seen. Joe Kindig speculated gunsmiths made only one pistol for every 200 rifles. CONDITION: appears to be clean & untouched. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19642/RG).
