INTERNATIONAL MATCH STYLE B TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1294230. These rifles are described in the book: THE SPRINGFIELD 1903 RIFLES by LT. COL. WILLIAM S. BROPHY, USAR, RET. This rifle appears nearly identical to the one of a lot of three known specimens shown in a photograph and described on page 138 with the exception that the raised cheek piece has a somewhat lower comb than the specimen pictured. The rifle has an unmarked 28" barrel, one inch in diameter at the muzzle not fitted with front sight. The receiver manufactured in 1928 is equipped with a base for a Lyman 48 sight. The slide assembly is not present. The bolt which is in the white has been numbered to match in electro-pencil. Headless cocking piece and reversed safety. The rifle has a Winchester A-5 Telescopic sight mounted on scope blocks 7 1/4" on center. The scope with a blued steel tube 3/4" in diameter has a heavy crosshair reticle. The scope is marked on top with the Winchester name, address, patent information and "-A5". The unmarked walnut stock is retained by one barrel band. It has an adjustable hook buttplate and military style sling swivels. The prominent raised cheekpiece is neatly inletted in place and secured by two dowels. CONDITION: the stock has most of its original finish showing the light wear associated with careful use. The right side of the butt has an area of brown coating along the seam of the cheekpiece. The metal retains a very large degree of its original armory blue finish with only very light wear. The scope has most of its original blue except the end pieces which are turning grey. Optics are slightly cloudy but serviceable. Bore is bright and shiny but has very lightly worn lands. (24-4758/RW). CURIO. $2,500-3,000.
