ERA DUTCH MUSKET. Cal. 75. NSN. Bbl. 43 1/4". This exact gun is pictured and described in Warren Moore’s 1967 text Weapons of the American Revolution. (pgs. 110-111) This is one of only two examples known. Pre-Revolutionary war Dutch lock has makers mark “CORAV- /A- MASTRICH” engraved forward of cock. Thumbplate & buttplate both numbered “38”. Indiscernible company markings are engraved on top buttplate tang. Many Dutch muskets were used in the American Revolution, but few with such a unique brand “TOWN OF / BOSTON”. REFERENCE: pages 110-111 Warren Moore, Weapons of the American Revolution, 1967. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: scan of book excerpt. CONDITION: good to very good overall, iron has smooth dark patina with minor pitting around breech. Stock shows sanding and removal of moldings around lock, old varnish mostly retained. Fit of metal to wood shows a few gaps especially around lock, barrel tang and front edge of trigger guard. Mechanically functional though won’t hold on half cock, smooth clear bore. PROVENANCE: Ex-Ed Charol collection. From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (01-17750/JS). ANTIQUE. $15,000-20,000.
