MODEL PP SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH DOCUMENTATION. Cal. 7.65mm. S# 194188P. Bbl. 3 7/8". 1 of only approx. 6,000 Model PP semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Walther under contract for the SS (Schutzstaffel). This example, mfg. in 1940, is listed by S# on page 97 of "SS Contract Walther PP/PPK Contract Variations & Serial Numbers" by Thomas Whiteman. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner logo, followed by markings stipulating Walther's mfg. information, as well as the model and cal. designations. Right side of the frame (on chamber), slide, and bbl. exhibit an Eagle/N commercial nitro proof. Metal components exhibit a high polish blue finish overall, save for on the chamber area, which is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Walther banner checkered black synthetic grips. Matte grooved rib, with fixed blade front sight and dovetailed U-notch rear sight. Slide matches the frame, via the full S# on the right side. MAGS: 1 spuriously matching 8-rd. mag. ("Comments/Condition" section in book lists, "97% high polish, no MM". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a 1999 copy of the "SS Walther PP/PPK 1939-1944" by Joachim Gortz & Diet H. Marschall, as well as a copy of John P. Pearson's article on the SS contract Walther PP/PPK pistols. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory high polish blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light to mild wear, with scattered superficial handling marks present overall. Grip straps exhibit scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show mild smoothing and some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. A scarce, documented, and high condition example of an SS contract Walther Model PP pistol. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-318/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
