ARTILLERY ARSENAL MODEL 1902 "GRANDPA" NAMBU SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH DESIREABLE REPRODUCTION STOCK HOLSTER. Cal. 8mm Nambu. S# 37. Bbl. 4 3/4". 1 of only approx. 2,400 Model 1902 "Grandpa" Nambu semi-automatic pistols mfg. by the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal. This example is listed by S# on page 44 of "The Hand Cannons of Imperial Japan" by Harry Derby. The top of the frame is marked with the Tokyo Artillery arsenal insignia, with Kanji characters denoting "Nambu Type" above the S# "37" marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with some small parts including the trigger, mag. release button, sear bar retainer, and striker spring guide exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with tangent rear sight, graduated 1-5. Rear of frame is fitted with a fixed lanyard loop, with the rear grip strap being slotted for a stock attachment. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, mag. release button, recoil spring guide, rear sight slide, bbl. / bbl. extension, bolt, firing pin, cocking knob, striker spring guide, left grip panel, as well as the mag. Locking block and right grip panel are unnumbered. MAGS: 1 matching 8-rd. wood bottom mag. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: desirable reproduction wood stock holster, with steel fittings and collapsible lug. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their original factory blue finish overall, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, some scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as some spots of mild pitting overall. Bottom of front grip strap and 3/4 of the rear grip strap exhibit wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with scattered spots of mild pitting. Frame exhibits concentrated areas of dark pitting beneath the grip panels. Strawed parts are very good overall, with the trigger exhibiting thinning and wear that shows through to gray patina and spots of age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered areas of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some smoothing and some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, with the right grip exhibiting a mild impression at the top of the panel. Stock holster is excellent, showing a few minor marks from handling and storage, with some light wear and thinning present on the stock lug from use. An exceptionally scarce and attractive example of one of the earliest Model 2 "Grandpa" Nambu semi-automatic pistols produced, complete with a desirable reproduction stock holster. (24-6886/MLW).
