LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH MATCHING MAGAZINE. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 3464v. Bbl. 7 7/8". 1 of only 100 LP.08 Luger semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Mauser under contract for the Bangkok police. The top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1936" over the chamber, with a double crowned "U" commercial proof (also present on the left side of the breechblock) and the S# marked on the left. Toggle is marked with the Mauser banner logo. Rear of frame is marked with a Thai lion head within a circle, followed by Thai characters denoting the property # (307). Underside of frame is engraved with an Odin import mark. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with adj. tangent V-notch rear sight. Nearly all numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, safety lever & bar, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, as well as the toggles. Trigger (S# 83) and hold-open latch (S# 65) are mismatched. Bbl. is unnumbered and rear sight is mismatched, as is corrected for this contract. Left grip is unnumbered, with the right grip numbered "25". MAGS: 1 matching 8-rd., with aluminum bottom, properly marked with a Mauser Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish (primarily on bbl. extension and toggle train), exhibiting wear and thinning, with varying degrees of pitting present overall. Sides of frame (beneath grip panels) exhibit heavy pitting. Strawed parts retain traces of their original finish, with the balance retaining a dark gray patina. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent mild pitting and some small concentrated spots of dark pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show heavy smoothing, as well as scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Right grip exhibits a couple of small cracks and some losses near the screw slot. An extremely scarce Thai contract Mauser LP.08 Luger pistol. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner.
