Cal. 44. NSN. Bbl. 41 1/2" oct. measuring 1" across flats at muzzle. German silver blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Top flat is stamped "F.N. BARGER 1870". "American Gunsmiths" by Frank Sellers has the following listing "Barger, Frederick N., (1813- ), Champaign Co., Ohio, 1836, Urbana, Ohio, 1881. Percussion full stock dated 1870 (Hutslar)". Josh Golcher marked engraved trade lock. Dbl. set triggers. Full length wedge fastened curly maple cheekpiece stock w/ incise carving along ramrod channel. Brass fittings consist of crescent buttplate, toeplate, finger curl trigger guard, sideplate, thimble, 2 faceted pipes & nose cap. Hardwood ramrod. Oval brass tag marked "J.M. DAVIS / 903 / MEMORIAL" is attached to trigger guard. The JM Davis Firearms Museum in Claremore, OK is home to the world's largest privately held firearms collection. CONDITION: metal has gray brown appearance showing sm. dents w/ heavy pitting in breech area. Wood has moderately worn finish showing vivid fiddle figure. Wrist has hairline crack on right side.
