CORRECT SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 7.8mm Bergmann. S# 733. Bbl. 4 1/4". Bergmann made approx. 800 Model 1897 No. 5 pistols in a variety of configurations to include several types of carbines. This is one of the more unusual pistols in that it has a shorter than usual bbl. extension and mag. housing that does not have any indicator holes. Characteristics are otherwise the same as standard production guns in terms of its single action locked breech mechanism, having a removable bbl. shroud, a push button detachable staggered mag., a horizontally drift adj. blade front sight, and a vertically adj. rear sight, graduated from 1-1000 meters. The bolt cover plate is marked "PISTOLET BERGMANN/ PATENT BREVETE S G.D.G.". An isolated Crown/N appears on the left side of the frame, while the full S# is on the right side of the frame. Small parts are either strawed or fire blued. Fitted with finely checkered and bordered grips. The base of the grip is made with an integral tunnel for insertion of the shoulder stock lug. Fitted with a detachable mag., no indicator holes, the floorplate marked with a matching "733". MAGS: 1 approx. 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct shoulder stock for the Bergmann 1897, with updated / more recent leather covering. No cleaning rod. Fire blued lug is numbered "273". CONDITION: this beautifully restored pistol now presents as having about 80% reapplied blue, nearly 100% of the reapplied straw and fire blue. Grips are dark, oil soaked, and with blunted checkering, particularly the right panel but no splits. Excellent mag. with reapplied finish and non-factory numbered to match. Bright bore, minimal etching, easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics. VG stock with more recent leather coverage, appropriately oil stained and darkened to match condition of pistol. Visually impressive ensemble by any metric. (01-27367/LMA). ANTIQUE. $7,500-12,000.
