This standard measures 49” across the hoist and 49” across the body of the standard with 1 1/2" silver fringe added on 3 sides. The body of the flag is heavy white silk with a central black silk Maltese cross. The cross is bordered with a 1 1/2" heavy silver bullion tape and edged with a smaller 5/16” silver bullion tape. The central Wehrmacht eagle measures 16” x 11 5/8” and is expertly embroidered in black & brown silk with some silver & gold bullion at the beak & talons. A huge, magnificent silver bullion wreath surrounds the eagle. The quality of the bullion leaves is simply staggering, and the detail work is some of the finest we have ever seen. The wreath is joined at the base with a gold bullion tie. Each corner of the standard has a black embroidered party symbol measuring 7 1/2" from point to point with a nearly 1/2" silver bullion border at all the edges. The standard is uncut and has the original sleeve for the pole intact. There is a visible line where the standard was originally tacked to the pole. CONDITION: the standard is quite solid and tremendously visually impactful. The plethora of silver bullion remains shiny & virtually undamaged. The eagle embroidery shows the lightest possible wear. The black silk cross has no notable issues. The white silk body has somewhat yellowed with age, but there are no large, unsightly stains or areas of offensive discoloration. There has been some minor reinforcing work, likely by a textile expert, in the area of the sleeve where the standard was attached to the pole. (02-19962/BF). $8,000-14,000.
