REVOLVER WITH GLASS TOP. Cal. 44. S# 6849. This intriguing blued steel mounted octagonal barrel Army revolver made without recoil shields is 14" overall, 7 7/8" octagonal barrel engraved to top flat: “COLT’S PATENT MANUFACTURED EXPRESSLY FOR MANTON & CO CALCUTTA”. Loading arm catch is unique spring that fits notched arm. Manton is among the most prestigious of 18th & 19th century English arms makers, still in business today. Revolver has scroll engraving on frame, trigger guard & backstrap. The cylinder is entirely covered in same scrolls. Beautiful presentation. Casing is glass topped with beveled glass, form fitted for screwdriver, caps, cleaning rod, and flask. CONDITION: revolver retains virtually all old refinished blue, nicely figured burl grips retain most all there high luster varnish. Mechanically crisp with bright shiny rifled bore. The barrel address has a name or logo that has purposely been removed by punch marks which also partially obscures “COLT” in address. Regardless, this is a beautiful presentation. Leather veneered casing is sound with scuffing, Components are fair. (01-22884/JS). $3,000-4,000.
