Manufactured in 1857-1860 to shoot self-contained "rocket ball" ammunition, about 1000 carbines in 3 lengths made, standard configuration 16.5" octagonal barrel, integral spring loaded full length loading tube, brass crescent shaped buttplate, silver plated engraved brass frame and butt plate, varnished checked burl walnut butt stock. CONDITION: very good overall, appears all original and matching, assembly number 163 noted on lever and lower tang opposite serial number, barrel cleaned, gray patina with only partial barrel patent marking discernible. Frame cleaned and toned light mustard patina, traces of tarnished silver plating especially on top tang, engraving all discernible, mechanically functional, crisp bright rifled bore.
