RIFLE. Cal. 45 Gov’t (45-70). S # 4568. Bbl. 28" octagon. German silver blade rocky mountain front sight, semi Buckhorn rear sight with midrange Vernier tang sight. Full length mag. Nickel finished action has deep scroll pattern hand engraving by an unknown hand. Sides of receiver have deeply cut vine type foliate scroll with punch stock backgrounds and straight line borders. Complementing scroll continues to upper and lower receiver areas and top tang. Breach bolt has circular Whitetail Buck’s head bracketed by wedges of scroll. Straight grain black walnut forearm and straight grip stock have added borderless hand checkering. Steel shotgun butt and forearm cap are silver finished. Serial number indicates 1883 mfg. CONDITION: nicely restored rifle. Bbl. and mag tube retain nearly all re-blued finish. Receiver has a satin re-nickeled finish. Hammer is re-case colored. Very good refinished wood and checkering. Buttplate and forearm cap retain nearly all silver finish having acquired a mild dark tarnish. Sound action. Very good bore retains strong rifling. (01-22317/DS). ANTIQUE: $3,500-5,000
