ERA TRENCH PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# E956111. It is reported in Government documents that these guns are typically found in the 921,300-986,300 S# range. Most M97 trench guns saw hard use during the war and typically exhibit evidence of such, making high condition examples, such as this one, extremely desirable and very difficult to come by. Bbl. 20" w/ cyl. bore with 4 row correctly unmarked Type "W" handguard / bayonet lug adapter. bayonet lug sits approx. 1/2" behind muzzle unlike WWI 1897 trench guns which were flush. Right side of receiver below and behind ejection port displays military applied "hardness punch". Breech end of bbl. stamped with the correct later style "flaming bomb" ordnance mark and "WP" proof. Left side of receiver is marked "U.S." followed by the "flaming bomb". Takedown style action with high polish blued finish. Original round grooved forearm & short comb fluted pistol grip stock with hard rubber checkered "Winchester" marked buttplate. Left side of stock has "G.H.D." inspector's mark over "crossed cannon" cartouche. Post-WWII era web sling on original swivels. 3" by 1/2" aluminum tag marked with S# is attached to the rear swivel by wire. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Remington model 1917 bayonet housed in green leather scabbard. Left side of bayonet marked "1913" / "10 17" over "Remington" in circle. Right side of bayonet marked with eagle head over "19", flaming bomb & "U.S.". Bayonet & scabbard in good condition, blade shows evidence of sharpening. CONDITION: very fine overall. Metal retains over 95% bright original commercial quality blue showing slide wear with a few scattered, light scratches. Right side of bayonet lugs displays a couple spots of peppery oxidation. Forearm shows light wear and scratches. Stock has lightly worn original finish showing only minor scratches & marks. Mechanically excellent. Very nice bright bore. A high condition example that one would find exceptionally difficult to improve upon. (25-1660/BH). CURIO. $7,000-10,000.
