SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 9353e. P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol, originally mfg. by DWM in 1916 for the Imperial German military and subsequently retained under the Treaty of Versailles for police use. Top of the bbl. extension is marked "1920" above the original chamber date, "1916", with DWM arsenal proofs stamped on the right. Front toggle has been ground down and marked with the spurious Rampant Colt logo stamped at the center. Top of the bbl. exhibits a faux "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.Co." address, with a Colt font "2" stamped on the underside. Underside of the frame exhibits a matching Colt font "2" with a faux "VP" proof stamped on the right side of the frame. Frame has been cut for a mag. safety, with the bbl. extension and sideplate having been modified to accommodate a sear safety. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: metal components exhibit a mottled gray patina, with areas of dark oxidation and pitting present overall. Forward toggle link is cracked on the left side's firing pin, "arm". Interior of the front grip strap has been repaired on the left side at one time. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting and a small bulge towards the muzzle, while retaining good rifling throughout. Grips exhibit smoothing and some scattered marks from handling and storage, with the left panel exhibiting a chip at the usual area to the rear of the safety lever. A neat fantasy piece that is certain to turn more than a few heads. (24-2273/MLW). CURIO. $500-1,000.
