An interesting early Far Eastern double bladed halberd ax measuring 301/2" in length and 10 1/2" from edge to edge. The crescent shaped iron blades have etched decorations and what appear to be Chinese writings. The iron blade are so pitted it is difficult to discern all the markings. A flat spike with a rounded base bisects the blades at the top. The current haft is about 21" long and seems to be early, but is likely not original to the head. CONDITION: iron has a dark patina but may have been cleaned in the distant past. The haft has the usual scuffs and scrapes. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24694/BF). $400-600.
