SHEATH. Overall length: 8 3/4". Blade length: 4 7/8". Blade has a raised medial ridge with foliate etching on both sides of the blade. Gilded brass ovoid guard with oak leaf decoration on the top. Gilded brass ferrule with turned, certifiably antique ivory grip and pommel. Gilded brass sheath with foliate engraving along with a raised wing American eagle perched on a sphere. This design is quite similar to examples used on New York militia buttons and accoutrements of the War of 1812 era. Brass ovoid frog stud. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with wear to one edge. Etching is light due to wear. Guard, ferrule and sheath have virtually no gilded finish remaining but all do show a pleasing, deep mustard patina. Grip has one notable age crack. (02-17479/BF). $1,300-1,800.
