This interesting bayonet has an overall length of 17 1/4". It has a blade length of 14" and a socket length of 2 11/16". The flat of the blade is slightly convex & has no markings. It appears to fall into a category between the M1795 & M1816 bayonet & likely dates to about 1800. It is quite similar to known state bayonets identified to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts & Maryland. The leather scabbard is 14" long & is sewn to a frog that is in turn sewn to a waist belt. The belt has a 1 1/4" x 2" iron roller buckle. CONDITION: the bayonet has an overall medium gray mottled patina. Scabbard remains quite strong with only a small break & seam opening at the extreme tip. The belt & frog are complete & remain quite supple. (02-17878/BF). $750-900.
