LIGHTHORSE SABER. Overall length: 40”. Blade length: 34 1/2". Blade has a single wide fuller and is etched with the words “AMERICAN LIGHTHORSE” on each side, accompanied by an American eagle with glory. The spine of the blade is marked “WM TESCHE PETERS SOHN IN SOLINGEN”. Iron hilt with 6-slot guard & knuckle bow. Plain backstrap with a rudimentary effigy of a lion head pommel. This saber originally had a wire-wrapped leather grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina with ample pitting towards the tip. Blade etching is still quite visible, though one eagle is a bit obscured. Hilt is solid, but also shares a dark, somewhat crusty patina. No leather remains on the grip, but the wooden core is nearly complete. There are remnants of internal cord wrapping & external wire wrapping extant. (02-19144/BF). $800-1,200.
