Cal. 58 RF. NSN. Bbl. 37". Blade front sight. Dual leaf folding rear sight. Bridesburg musket converted into a breechloading rifle. Lock has Bridesburg marking. Walnut stock set w/ three bands. Bottom mounted sling swivels. Ramrod present. Left side of stock has faint shamrock over "IR" marking denoting use by the O’Mahony wing of the Fenian Brotherhood, a pro Irish independence movement in the US. The Fenian Brotherhood hoped to attack Canada in an attempt to gain Irish independence using these rifles. CONDITION: stock appears lightly sanded w/ a few chips, scattered dings & handling wear. Ramrod is a dull gray patina w/ scattered pitting. Bbl. & bands appear cleaned w/ areas turning gray, scattered pitting & oxidation. Trigger guard is a dull gray oxidized patina. Lock assembly is a dull gray patina w/ some oxidation staining. Bore has worn rifling w/ scattered pitting. (01-23447/MJC). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
