PISTOL, USED BY GOVERNOR’S HORSE GUARDS OF CONNECTICUT. NSN 54 Standard configuration, brass mounted, captured ramrod assembly, 14” overall, 8.5” barrel on top of breech: “US / GW / P” and “JH” (Joseph Hannis) at right, “1851” on tang, lock: "U.S. / H. ASTON", & at tail: “MIDD’TN / CONN / 1852”. This exact pistol w/ stamped AB Brooks # 944 was cataloged in 1899. Brooks notes that it was part of pair carried by Connecticut Governor’s Horse Guard, until 1885. Brooks collected majority of his museum in his Hartford home. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: illustrated record sheet of authority by Dr. Fred Novy. Copies of pages from 1899 published Illustrated AE Brooks catalog of Antique Guns, Hartford, CT. CONDITION: fine overall, crisp markings including bright pair of cartouches in stock: “WN" (Walter North) and "WAT" (William A. Thornton). Mechanically fine, clean smooth bore.
