FLINTLOCK PISTOL. Cal. 54. NSN. Standard configuration, 8.5" smooth bore barrel, lock "A. WATERS / MILLBURY MS / 1837", all iron mounted, walnut stock with two strong inspection cartouches. Mr. Bricker has correspondence concerning provenance of this pistol being owned by Lieutenant Basil Armstrong, 1st US dragoons. Mr. Bricker originally purchased this revolver from a physician in Ohio along with an inscribed Mexican Artillery manual with inscription "This book was taken from the library of the Mexican school of Cadets at Chapultepec by Lt. Basil Armstrong 1st US Dragoons 1847". The book has not been located. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: folder with correspondence concerning purchase, collection photos of pistol and inscribed Mexican artillery book from Chapultepec, 1992 Ohio Historical Society publication concerning Ohio troops in the Mexican War, copy of daguerreotype of Lieutenant Armstrong in the National Archives. CONDITION: very good overall, metal cleaned to grey with light pitting, complete and original, good markings and inspection marks, mechanically fine smooth clear bore.
