RIFLE. Cal. 40 Krag. S# 4291 (1878). Factory records indicate that this rifle was a best quality single shot made in 1878 in 500/450 caliber. Barrel has been invisibly sleeved to 40 Krag. The 27" tapered octagon damascus barrel is fitted with one standing leaf rear and square bead white front sight. Top of barrel is engraved "Alexr Henry Edinburgh and London. Patent No. 3323". (Rifling use number.) Case hardened Jones underlever action is fitted with back spring lock with non-rebounding serpentine hammer and front stalking safety. Action is engraved with 60% coverage well cut scroll. Maker's name is on lock. Horn capped pistol grip buttstock made of very nicely figured and marbled European walnut measures 14-3/8" over checkered wood butt with engraved steel heel and toeplates. Stock features classic Henry double shadow line right hand cheekpiece and point pattern grip checkering. Matching splinter forend with horn tip attaches to barrel with side bolt through shaped and engraved steel escutcheons. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Barrel retaining over 90% original brown with some scratches and marks. Action and lock retain 90% original case hardening color. Stocks retain nearly all of their original finish with a fair scattering of light marks. Re-lined bore is bright sharp and shiny. Action is tight. Lock is crisp.
