OFFICER SWORD IN ORIGINAL SCABBARD. Boyle & Gamble, Richmond, VA was the largest maker of officer swords in the Confederacy, finding beautiful "as found" examples however is rare. You will not find a more perfect & pleasing example in scabbard of the pattern, wonderful brass patina, perfect scabbard leather, perfect leather grip. Blade shows forging "flaw" where iron tang blacksmith welded to steel blade, retains protective leather washer. CONDITION: fine overall, 29.5" blade is gray/white w/ etched patriotic panels including shield w/ "CSA" & battle flag, B&G etching notoriously light & hard to discern w/out scrutiny. Brass hilt & scabbard has matching deep olive/dark mustard patinas. Leather grip & single copper wire wrap are tight & complete except 1/2" well patinaed chip near base. Original scabbard fits well about 1" opening near drag on sewn edge. Sword is tight & could only be improved if etch was stronger. (02-17365/JS). $8,000-12,000
