BLADE PIPE TOMAHAWK. 15" Overall, 9.25", spontoon head with stamped star, moon and 4 pedaled flower designs. This must be one of the finest examples of this style first identified by George West of the Milwaukee Public Museum in 1905. The forged head has a central circular piercing and in addition to the Crescent moons and stars are found intricate four petal flowers. The haft in addition to the long pierced design is also lightly carved decorated. The haft and the head are superior and more elaborate than other examples found in the literature, and the untouched surface and patina present beautifully. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, haft is cracked near head, head has dark smooth iron patina, point blunted. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18498/JS). $3,000-4,000.
