VP / eaglehead proofs, “N.W.” inspection on breech, 3 position rear sight, 3 flat spring retained barrel bands. Lock marked with spread wing eagle over “U.S.” & “SAVAGE R.F.A. Co / MIDDLETOWN. CON” & “1863” at tail. Walnut stock has inspection initials & cartouche. Buttplate surcharged “US”. Bayonet has 18.5” blade with US surcharge. This is superior condition survivor, original, & complete. PROVENANCE: Michael E. Bray estate collection. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, crisp markings, metal cleaned, mostly bright, stained, stock is sound with sharp edges, very good discernible cartouche & inspection initials. Mechanics fine, bright crisp rifled bore. Bayonet is very good. (01-23300/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
