PERCUSSION RIFLE MUSKET & BAYONET. Cal. .58. S# NSN. Bbl. 40". Standard configuration of model 1861 US percussion rifle musket, 40" barrel dated 1864 on tang, VP / eaglehead proofs, "W.T.M." inspection on breech, 3 position rear sight, 3 flat spring retained barrel bands. Lock marked with spread wing eagle over "U.S." & "Wm MUIR & CO / WINDSOR LOCKS, CT." & "1864" at tail. Walnut stock has 2 inspection cartouches "WB & "WTM". Buttplate surcharged "US". Bayonet has 18.5" blade with US surcharge. This is superior survivor, all original & complete. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, crisp markings, metal mostly bright, stained, light pitting in areas, stock has raised grain, moderate storage dings & dents, very good discernible cartouches. Mechanics fine, good rifled bore. Bayonet fits well. PROVENANCE: Michael E. Bray estate collection. (01-23289/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
