SWORD, LT. PG GALVIN, 6TH MISSOURI INFANTRY. Standard configuration of the Civil War model 1850 foot officer sword, 30.5" patriotic etched blade, shark skin grip, brass mounted AMES scabbard with engraved throat: ""PRESENTED to / LT PG GALVIN / 6TH REG. MO. INF. / by the / MEN OF HIS COMMAND". Patrick Galvin served the entire war from 1861 to 1865, he was wounded twice, gunshot wound to leg in 1862 and then in 1863 at Vicksburg, wound to head, he still stayed in service and mustered out in April 1865 as major. Missouri presentation swords are very scarce as is good identified Missouri Civil War material. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bill of sale from Woody Summerlin from 1976 and copy of Patrick G. Galvin's war history where he mustered in Saint Louis as Lieutenant in 1861 to his Commission as major in 1865. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, blade etch is light yeah but mostly discernible with much original frost and luster, excellent point, protective leather washer intact, scabbard is very good and much better than average, retains much original black dyed surface was scuffing, scratches, and few cracks. Scabbard mounts have been polished and toned. Hilt retains about half of its original gold plate, grip is fine. Attached bullion sword knot is complete with some fraying and wear as expected.
