CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABER, LT. SAMUEL PERKINS, 1ST PHILADELPHIA BATTERY. This is a beautiful Horstmann, Philadelphia Cavalry saber with fine 32" patriotically etched blade, Presentation plaque applied to polished steel scabbard "LIEUTENANT SANUEL C. PERKINS / FIRST PHILADELPHIA BATTERY FROM / Capt. Wilcox's company of MINUTE MEN / as a token of their appreciation of the services / rendered by the battery in the defense of the State of Pennsylvania in the SUMMER of 1863 / Carlisle, Sporting Hill". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nicely compiled history of Samuel Perkins including his service in the Gettysburg campaign which the sword was presented in commemoration of. A facsimile of a CDV showing Lieutenant Perkins in uniform with a cavalry saber, probably this one. CONDITION: fine overall, blade retains virtually all of its original luster and etched panels, perfect point. Shark skin grip is complete with tight wrapped triple wire, light scuffing to high points. Decorated brass hilt has much of its original gold plate with balance olive patina. Scabbard is equally fine with good steel polish, a few scattered areas of staining and pitting. Scabbard retains it's original protective wood liner and red cloth protective washer. (02-24429/JS). NON-GUN. $3,000-5,000.
