Cal. 56-50 Rimfire. S# 56288. Bbl. 22" standard configuration, blued rnd. bbl. w/ adj. ladder rear sight, top of frame has 3-line address: SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS / PAT’D MARCH 6, 1860”. Springfield Armory refinished “ECW” cartouche; EC Wheeler was Springfield Armory inspector, original Civil War configuration though hammer was updated at Springfield to flush fit style on model 1865. 20 Rd. wood block cartridge box w/ New York maker's mark retains 1 original .56/56 Spencer cartridge. CONDITION: very good overall, bbl. retains 80% plus original Springfield Armory blue. Frame, lock, & breech have muted case colors. Stocks have been refinished & varnished, cartouche still discernible. Mechanically crisp w/ bright shiny bore. Cartridge box is fine overall, retaining most of its original black finish, light craquelure at fold. Maker's cartouche is easily read. (01-19098/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
