SHOOTER" SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 44-40. S# 124556. Standard configuration, 7.5" barrel, full round front sight, one-line Hartford address, "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched panel on left side, crisp "44" and small London proofs forward of the base pin. "44CAL" stamped on left front web of trigger bow. Frame stamped on left side with three-line patent marks, right side stamped P9503 in large font upside down dies, mounted with high polish varnished grips. This revolver was one of 110 Frontier Six Shooters shipped to the London agency in 1887. The accompanying red baize lined English oak case has illustrated directions paste inside lid. Case is fitted for a Dixon pewter oiler, cleaning brush and three piece slotted rod. CONDITION: fine overall, revolver retains about 20% bright factory blue especially in protected areas, traces of case colors, balance of metal is smooth gray patina, markings are crisp. Mechanics are fine, crisp rifled bore. Grips retain about 90% of their original factory varnish with moderate edgewear and scattered dents and scratches. Casing very good with expected wear and soiling to lining, pasted direction label is fine. PROVENANCE: revolver Little John's Auction 2000. Case & accessories Mel Torme, Collection of Horst Kreiner.
