Cal. 45 Colt. S# 56889. Bbl. 7 1/2" with blade sight. Six shot fluted cylinder. Bull's eye ejector head. Blue finish with case colored frame and hammer. Left side of frame marked "U.S." behind standard three line patent marking. Bottom of frame above S#, cylinder and barrel have inspector mark "D. F. C." (David F. Clark). Barrel also has "P" inspection mark. Frame, barrel, cylinder and grip straps have matching S#s. One piece walnut grip. Left panel is dated "1880" over a partially legible cartouche with the initials "DAL" (David A. Lyle). Cartouche on right panel is illegible. CONDITION: frame retains over 40% dark, nicely visible case colors in protected areas with balance fading to an even gray/brown patina. Hammer retains 90% case colors on sides. Barrel retains over 75% lightly faded blue showing spots of carrying and muzzle wear. Grip straps and ejector housing retain 30% blue fading to brown and showing carry wear. Grips have an age darkened worn appearance with dense marks with handling marks showing rounding at butt with series of dents at bottom of right panel. Action is tight with strong spring tension. Bore is generally bright with strong rifling. (01-20201/DS). ANTIQUE. $10,000-15,000.
