CARBINE. Cal. 50 Rimfire. NSN. Bbl. 20". This fine example of a Peabody carbine may have been mfg. for the French contract during the Franco-Prussian War & was among those not delivered. The rifle is marked w/ the standard Peabody markings on the left side of the receiver & the crisp "WC" cartouche on the left side of the grip. Many parts have small assembly letters. Folding rear sight marked for three & 600 yards. Stud type front sight. Back action lock w/ exposed hammer. Saddle ring mounted in staple on left side. Walnut stock set. Solid bbl. band retained by spring. CONDITION: stock set has very nice original finish w/ small scattered handling marks. Metal retains most of its original finish w/ light wear. Action parts have notable case colors. Buttplate & bbl. band are finished gray. Bore is shiny w/ strong sharp lands & small areas of frosting in grooves.
