SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1896 KRAG CAVALRY CARBINE. Cal. 30-40 KRAG. S# 99964. Bbl. 22". This carbine retains a great deal of its original finish on both wood and metal plus has crisp legible markings. Model 1896 ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards. Marked with "C" on top right side of ladder. Blade front sight. Sight blade has been shortened. Walnut stock set. Stock is marked behind saddle ring w/ boxed "JSA 1896". Marked under grip w/ encircled script "P" proof & tiny "O", "44" assembly numbers. Smooth trap buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct 3 section cleaning rod & brass oiler. Bbl. band serves as a sight protector & is retained by a spring. CONDITION: stock set retains a very lg. degree of it's original finish w/ light wear and scattered handling marks. Two sm. missing chips on left side at toe. Metal retains 70% thinning, blue finish.
