Cal. 8 Ga. S# 34418 (1885). This well made big gun has 34" two stripe broad damascus barrel engraved "W&C. Scott & Son Makers & Patentees, London." on concave game rib. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs along with bore and muzzle info and "NOT FOR BALL". Case hardened top lever action is fitted with front spring locks with rebounding serpentine hammers. Action has line border engraving while locks have scroll borders with portrait of dog at rear of left lock. Both locks are engraved with maker's name. Steel trigger guard has Scott lighthouse logo and S# on tang that extends to horn grip cap. Capped pistol grip buttstock of lightly figured European walnut measures 14-1/8" over checkered horn buttplate, point pattern checkering runs over top of grip and a vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching short splinter forend has Scott patent front lever release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: 3-3/16". DAC: 1-15/16. CAST: about 1/4" off. LOP: 14-1/8". WEIGHT: 12 lb. 8 oz. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Barrels retaining over 60% original brown. Action has most of its original case color. Locks have over 90% color. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with some marks and scratches. Checkering is lightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Action is tight. Locks crisp.
