J.B. TUBBS. Classic wood canteen carried by soldiers in the deep south. 7.25"dia., 2.25" Tall, bound by two iron bands w/ three sling hooks. Leather sling w/ iron buckle. Nicely carved on one side "J.B. TUBBS" / "CO A 10TH REGT". Only two J.B. Tubbs' are found in one database, one being John B. Tubbs of the 14th Texas light Artillery & J.B. Tubbs of the 6th Tennessee Cavalry. There is a James Tubbs who is listed as private in 10th Mississippi Cavalry, Company F, a little more research should be able to pinpoint this soldier. Regardless, this is a superior example of a Confederate wood canteen. CONDITION: canteen body has hand worn patina. Bands & sling hooks have mostly smooth iron patina w/ pitting. The attached leather sling is poor & broken in 3 pieces. (02-16612/JS). $3,000-5,000.
