CAVALRY SABER. Classic saber made at Louis Froelich’s “Confederate States Armory” in Kenansville, North Carolina. Distinct Froelich features include pointed heavy beveled lozenge shaped guard, matching Roman numeral assembly marks on guard and brass throat of scabbard. Froelich scabbards are unique lap seamed, pinned brass throat, large flat brass sword rings, squared tip, iron drag, dark red lacquer. This saber is a beautiful “as found” survivor. You will not find a much better blade on a Confederate cavalry saber. CONDITION: very good to fine overall with complete 95% leather grip, chipped and scoffed, single brass wire wrap, the 35” unstopped fuller blade is superior retaining much of its original factory polish, stained, rusted and light pitting. matching assembly “IX” on hilt and throat, matching dark brass patina throughout. Scabbard is in matching fine condition, most of its darkened red/brown lacquer surface is retained. (02-21837/JS). $3,000-4,000.
