NC CAVALRY SABER. Classic saber made at Louis Froelich’s “Confederate States Armory” sword factory in Kenansville, North Carolina. Distinct Froelich features include pointed quillon, matching Roman numeral assembly marks on guard and brass throat of scabbard. Froelich scabbards are unique lap seamed, pinned brass throat, large flat brass sword rings, squared tip, iron drag, dark red lacquered. This saber exhibits heavier than normally encountered classic Froelich pointed quillon w/ 1860 style pommel instead of normally encountered straight sided pommel characteristic of this maker. You will not find a better blade on a Confederate cavalry saber. CONDITION: very good to fine overall with complete leather grip and single brass wire wrap, the 35” unstopped fuller blade is exceptional retaining most of its original factory polish with light staining and pitting. matching assembly “XXVII” on hilt and throat, matching dark brass patina throughout. Scabbard is in matching fine condition, much of its darkened lacquer surface retained. (02-19171/JS). $4,000-5,000.
